Applications are being accepted for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of English at Anderson University.
This is a renewable, annual 9-month contract.
The teaching load will include 24 credit hours over the fall and spring semesters of the 2024-25 academic year, comprised entirely of first-year composition courses.
Job Responsibilities: Follow the established guidelines of the First Year Writing Program, including required course materials, essay requirements, and appropriate feedback on student drafts.
Create daily lesson plans that engage students and relate directly to course objectives.
Foster an inclusive classroom environment that respects diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
Hold at least 8 weekly office hours, the majority of which are in person, in which students can schedule meetings.
Maintain a minimum of 4 days/week physical presence on campus.
Participate in meetings and other activities sponsored by the English Department.
Attend chapel services regularly.
Participate in faculty committee work as assigned and complete required assessment activities, including submitting requested reports to the Assessment Committee.
Submit an annual report to the department chair for English and Modern Languages and to the Dean of the College of Humanities, Education and Social & Behavioral Sciences.
Respond promptly and regularly to email communications from the department chair, the English program director, the dean and students.
Qualifications: A masters degree in English, writing, or rhetoric, or equivalent fields is desired.
Terminal degree preferred.
Demonstrated success and enthusiasm for working with first-year college students is preferred.
Candidates with significant experience teaching at the secondary level are also encouraged to apply.
Experience teaching first-year writing or similar courses with a focus on writing.
A Christian faith perspective.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Candidates should have belief in and commitment to Jesus Christ and the Christian faith as interpreted through the historic witness of the Bible and the ongoing ministry of the Holy Spirit.
They should possess a vitality of Christian experience that is maturing in insight and application.
Candidates must meet University lifestyle expectations.
