Lead Teacher TBCC Pay rate listed is a starting range based on experience and education level.
Job Description: Lead Teachers are responsible for providing and maintaining a nurturing and educational environment for the children in their care.
Lead caregivers report to the Director/Assistant Director.
Hours: Up to 40 hours a week between the hours of 7:00am – 6:00pm Monday through Friday.
Daily Schedule may vary based upon the operational needs of the Center.
Due to the nature of licensing regulations overtime does occur.
QUALIFICATIONS: · 21 years of age.
· Successfully completed background check and fingerprinting.
· CPR & First Aid certified within 30 days of hire.
Education/Certification: Minimum: One (1) of the following conditions must be met: A high school diploma with 2 years of teaching experience in a licensed childcare center.
A current CDA credential.
An Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with a kindergarten endorsement with grades of C or better from an accredited college or university (with grades of C or better from an accredited college or university or references from on-the-job experience).
A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with a kindergarten endorsement (with grades of C or better from an accredited college or university or references from on-the-job experience).
A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university that includes one (1) of the following: Fifteen (15) credit hours in college level courses with content related to the needs, skills, development, or teaching methods of children six (6) years of age or younger and grades of C or better.
A two (2) year associate degree in early childhood education from an accredited college or university, with a grade of C or better Preferred: Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Early Childhood Education, plus 1 or more years of childcare experience Special Knowledge/Skills: A willingness and the ability to act independently within your knowledge of licensing requirements and on-site policy in order to manage a classroom.
Experience with implementation of curriculum.
Experience working with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
Experience using web based childcare record platforms (Daily Connect, Pro Solutions, My Food Program, Brightwheel, etc) and experience with using computers and tablets to enter that information.
Comfortable using phone, email, and text-based services for communication.
Experience/knowledge in the Paths to Quality and state licensing requirements is preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1.
Supervise the creation of a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of children.
2.
Manage one classroom of children, including curriculum planning & implementation of the curriculum.
3.
Interact with the children in a way which conveys respect and nurturing.
4.
Support the social and emotional development of children.
5.
Engage in active play with children; this will often mean getting down on the floor to interact with them.
6.
Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children.
7.
Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials appropriate for the early childhood program.
8.
Maintain accurate and appropriate records for children in the assigned classroom.
9.
Attend to the personal hygiene of each child in your care, including changing diapers or soiled clothing and washing hands.
10.
Maintain a safe environment based on safety standards set by the Center and state guidelines.
11.
Help other staff in preparing meals for children as required.
12.
Assist in the cleaning and straightening of the childcare rooms.
13.
Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.
14.
Assist in the development and facilitation of interactive parent and child literacy activities.
15.
Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationships with each child’s family and encourage their involvement in the program.
16.
Continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences, and other staff development opportunities.
17.
Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
18.
Supervise caregivers, volunteers, and visitors assigned to the classroom.
19.
Perform other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES Supervise caregivers, volunteers, and visitors assigned to the Lead Caregiver’s classroom, during the time they are in the classroom.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to maintain emotional control and sound judgement under stress.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to routinely lift children (if assigned to the Continuity of Care room - must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
